The Wry Librarian [logo]

Welcome

You have landed on a site created by me, Susanna Pathak, The Wry Librarian. I am a writer and designer and of course a librarian.

My site holds several Projects that I want to share with the world. It’s open to all, sponsor free, no advertising. You can subscribe if you want to get new content sent directly to your inbox. Again, all content is free.

I promise I will not ask you to “like” me on social media or give me a five star review. I’m on X/Twitter @sacredstacks, on Mastadon @susannapathak@Techhub.social and my email address is susannapathak@gmail.com if you wish to comment or connect.

So here we go. Some vitals --

I live in Maine now, surrounded by lots of big tall trees and hardy, practical folks. The air is fresh here; there is an abundance of sacred beauty. It must be the trees, the natural beauty and the baked-in sturdiness of the place (along with the right outfits) that helps me appreciate Maine in any season.

It’s nice work being an academic librarian, a knowledge worker. I’ve been “in” higher education my entire adult life.

Here’s an amazing image of a futuristic librarian on a postcard I picked up at a conference more than 25 years ago (1). It celebrates Australian Library Week.

Comic image of muscular librarian with one hand on keyboard and one hoisting a book with text noting “Pathways to Knowledge” and “The Journey Never Ends”
Incredible Library [postcard]

The card is taped to a Day-Timer ® folio that I carried for a few years in the late 1990s. It’s a rather tattered card (ca. 1996) but very inspiring. The folio holds an iPad mini these days, perfectly.

My Myers-Briggs® Type is ENTJ, with a very strong E for Extroversion.

I have Emotional Intelligence, but misplaced the results report. I recall my EI scores were pretty good.

A short press release from 2012 includes a few facts about my jobs and professional work (see ‌‌Notes and Images)(2).

I can say that my career as an academic librarian has been mighty fine. My CV is 11 pages long. I last updated it in December 2020 for a campus accreditation visit, but trust me, you wouldn’t want to read it. I plan to include a few of my library publications and presentations in The Writings and ShareSheets.

Broken, I continue to do intellectual work every day as a writer and designer. I wish to contribute to efforts to build resources for Patient-Led Education.

The medical conditions that have been drivers for two of the Projects on this site (Patientology [and] The Accessibility University) are:

  • Cervical Spondylosis
  • Bilateral Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
  • Mitochondrial Myopathy

In sum, I am motor impaired.

My motto is zoom zoom (3).
